Census Map - Medically Underserved Areas
The communities TCHC serves have changed in profound ways over the past decade. With the burst of the "dot com bubble" to an increase of low-wage service jobs with no benefits, and now the loss of stable housing in our area, it is not surprising that our patient population (98% are uninsured) has doubled in only five years.
The following composite map showing MUA census tracts, zip codes and TCHC service sites should be viewed with a critical eye. When MUAs are deemed anew following the 2010 census, this same map may show far more census tracts with concentrations of medically underserved people – this won’t be a surprise to our medical providers.
