Young, Healthy Doctor Can’t Get Health Insurance - Insurance companies deny coverage due to eczema and rye grass allergy
Irony is not lost on Angelique Green, M.D. "If you want to see the face of a person who cannot get health insurance, look at mine," she says. "I am a physician, in my early 40s, in excellent health, and my employer provides health insurance," she adds. "Yet my employer’s plan won't cover me because I use an over-the-counter cream to treat my eczema and a prescription nasal spray for a seasonal allergy to rye grass. - Inge Marie Phillips started working at 18 and immediately received health insurance through her employer. Over the next four decades, she was never without coverage - that is, until she was laid off from her job as a telephone operator. The 58-year-old Newark woman went without insurance for a brief period - during which she suffered a heart attack - but now has found a way to get her health needs met, even though she hasn't found a new job or affordable private health insurance. The Argus and TCHC show impact of dental program cuts
- FREMONT — Alexis Randall walked into the dental office for her fourth and final deep-cleaning session. As fate would have it, last week's visit also may very well have been her last trip to the dentist. A victim of the state budget cuts, Randall lost Medi-Cal dental coverage on July 1 — as did some 118,700 other adults in Alameda County and 3.2 million residents in California, according to the state Oral Health Access Council.
